Last post was my Sanyo 7050 cell phone… Here is my review.

Sanyo 7050

First, let us judge the book by its cover. The phone is hideous. It does not have a camera. Its not something to show off to all your friends. Its simply an ugly looking phone.

Now lets take a closer look at the phone. First of all, I LOVE the old school pullout antenna, hahaha. Personally, all I look for in a phone is durability, quality, and functionality. This phone is about 80 percent rubber exterior. This means any scratches will not physically damage the phone. It absorbs impact, rather than transferring the blow into the internals of the phone. The battery cover has a lock mechanism, which means when dropped, the cover will not pop out. Size is quite small, compared to other phones on the market. The phone ACTUALLY stands up to military standards withstanding dust, shock, and vibration. I have dropped this phone down three flights of stairs, stepped on it, played soccer with it, threw it at a wall, dropped it in water (of course turning it off quickly and drying it for a day) and it still works like the day i bought it. I have never had a phone that is so durable, let alone heard of one in my life. So for durability and quality I can give a solid 10 out of 10.

This phone however is not for everyone. If you want to take pictures, forget about it. If you want to listen to music, forget about it. If you want to watch videos, forget about it. Games work fairly well and run a lot smoother than any phone I previously have had. Simple internet browsing works well. I actually use it to check my google calendar frequently. Battery lasts very long. I mean VERY long. I has a battery save feature which dims light, and changes a few settings, and this lets it last on standby twice as long. 4 days 5 days I have gone with minimal use. Bluetooth, for devices only and cards, no data transfer. It has a voice memo option which is neat. Did I mention is has GPS? YUP, and works flawlessly with Bell Mobility’s GPS Navigation software which works quite well. It has all the simple applications like calendar, alarm clock, calculator, stop watch, etc…

If you work construction, or are on some serious camping missions, going to war, or use a phone casually for few calls, or are simply a clumsy person, do yourself a favour and get this phone. With a three year plan, I paid 90$. I know it would seem it should be free, but I would have paid a lot more for it, knowing how great this phone actually is.

I broke my 4th phone last week, GAH!!!! Let me describe my cell phone history…

1st Phone

Samsung SGH-D407 – This was probably the best phone ever. Simple, sturdy, small. I, the idiot that I am got this July 2006 as a birthday gift for myself. The reason i was an idiot was that i bought it full price with a pay-as-you-go-plan. I bought 80 dollars worth of pay-as-you-go cell phone cards. I look back at my life with a sad face. This lasted me 5 months before I decided on going a 3 year contract with the LG chocolate TG800 slider.

2nd Phone

The LG chocolate was by far my worst phone on earth. Hard to use, battery lasted not long at all, the music player was definably not the greatest, text messaging was near impossible, and the damn thing scratched WAY to easy.

3rd phone

This phone was incredible. I got the student plan with solo mobile, 35/month, including 1000 text messages, 100 daytime, free incoming, unlimited weekend and weeknights after 5pm. I get the phone for free AND I’m on a monthly contract, meaning I can cancel whenever I want. There is nothing that can get better that that That phone lasted me 2 months, before foolishly jumped into a swimming pool only to realize 10 minutes after splashing around the phone was in my pocket. I returned to the T-Booth where I purchased my phone.

4th Phone

They had one more phone left at the store. SO i had to cancel my account, activate another one, to take advantage of the deal AGAIN.

5th Phone

So last week I cracked the screen on my Nokia 6275i. This led my into a bell world store to look for a 3 year contract, discounted phone. I chose this. I hate it. It has nearly identical interface and software as the LG Chocolate, and i cant do that again. Sure it has a stainless steal battery cover and front cover, but the hinge is plastic, I defiantly do not enjoy the flat keys, and personally, a cell phone CAN be too thin. I’m gonna return it tomorrow morning. The warranty says i can return or exchange within 15 days, or 15 minutes of use, whichever comes first. I used 21 minutes, so I hope they don’t check that.

6th phone (soon to be hopefully)

This is the Sanyo 7050, this thing wil withstand my brutal punishments, It is military certified, so I’m sure it can take a beating. I’ll write a more detail review once I get this bad boy.

So, you came back from a trip, and took a few pictures and would like to share them with some family and friends. You COULD go through the trouble of burning them onto a cd and sending them. You COULD email them, but where is the fun in that? Why not make a website? YES you can now have your own virtual web space to do what you please. With the internet bringing people together, and making and maintaining a website being easier than ever, now is the perfect time.

Google Pages would be the perfect answer for those people don’t want to spend hours creating a website, or for those who haven’t really made one before.

Welcome to your home screen.

From here, as you can see, you have all your pages that you have created and that can be linked from one to another. Every website has a home page. This cannot be deleted. When someone types you sites URL, it will take them to that page, so make that one as flashy and pretty as possible

One the right, you have files that you can upload. You can upload any files you want. You do have a limit of 100MB so keep that in mind.

This would be your site editor. From the home menu, when you click on a page, it will take you to a screen like this. You have all your editing tools on the top. You can insert links, images, videos, PDF files… ANYTHING. Any files you have hosted with Google Pages will be linked to from the links button.

This is the part where Google Pages shines. To make it customizable yet easy to use, changing your sites layout is a breeze with the Change Layout button on the top right. This would be the hardest part if one were to create a site using html coding n such. AND YOU CAN MANUALLY EDIT THE HTML CODING. Now advanced users can completely customize their Google page.

Changing your websites theme is easy too, and they have plenty of them. One will certain to suit you. Another cool thing about this is why make one page? Each Google account has 3 website they can create. One could be your school site (like mine), another can be your family actions website, and the third be some sort of website with adult content. :S HEY, why not?! Google allows it. It simply needs to be disclosed with Google. Don’t worry, your parents wont find out. There are many customizable settings like which parts of the world you would like this site to be mainly viewed, or parental controls, or why don’t you password protect your site so only certain users can view them. The sky is the limit with this great free site builder by Google.

The bugle (Buick Regal ’95) has been giving us a lot of troubles these past few days, from not starting, to eletricals all shutting down. This weekend, while driving to the cousins for a little party, the alternator decided to stop working, thus draining the battery during the drive, leading to the quit frightening flickering of all my lights, resulting in shutting down. luckly I boosted it and got it back home. That marked the last straw. Parents went to the nearest Toyotal dealership and picked up a new 2009, Toyota Corolla LE. (I was pushing the S but that didn’t fly) They actually traded the Bugle in and got 1000 for it. But the challenge was actually getting it there. So, we charged the battery and prayed to god it would get to the dealers without dying or showing signs of death. HA, the silly guys bought the act.

March 25th, 2008, marks the day our Bugle has moved on to a better place. A place of happiness and joy. A place where he will see his long lost buddies. A place where the jaws of life with tear every panel from its body and where its naked frame will get crushed and recycled. This is not the death of my Bugle, only the resurrection, due to car metal recycling laws.

This one is called MediaMax. www.mediamax.com is their website. Right now, for free users, no trial periods, they offer a 25gb storage space. Now, compare this to Windows SkyDrive at 5GB, and XDrive at 5 GB. Media Max defiantly has the greatest deal going on.

The only downside to this fairy tale is the MediaMax XL software that they provide. This is a program that allows you to upload your files and even sync folders, from your desktop, rather than doing so from their website. Right now, its not really working well or me, hopefully due to it being in the beta stages.

Maybe in the near future, they will get this Desktop Uploader baby up and running, but in the meantime, I will enjoy a glass of hot tea, as I watch my school documents be stored on MediaMax’s servers…
